Required checkups before installation

  • Before installing the CLIFF Mini electric sauna heater, verify that the maximum amperage of the main circuit breaker complies with the parameters of the heater.
  • Ensure that the power rating (kW) of the heater matches the cubic size (ft³) of the steam room. In case there are any uninsulated brick, tile, or glass walls in the sauna room, an additional volume of 4,8 ft³ must be added to the sauna room for each 1 ft² of such wall.
  • The minimum safety distance from the ceiling and the walls of the steam room that apply to the positioning of the electric sauna heater are presented in Table 1.

Installation of CLIFF Mini electric sauna heater

When positioning the heater, ensure that there is a safe clearance between flammable materials and the external surfaces of the heater.

  • When choosing a suitable location, ensure that you can conveniently throw water on sauna stones when sitting on the sauna bench.
  • Ensure that the location of the heater does not create hazardous situations during its use. Make sure that people would not have to pass too closely by the hot heater.
  • Table 1 gives an overview of the minimal safety distance that should remain between the heater and the ceiling and the walls of the steam room.
  • Power cable inlets are located on the bottom cover of the heater.
  • CLIFF Mini is attached to the wall with a special bracket. Fix the bracket with 4 screws to the wall as shown below and attach the sauna heater to the bracket.

Connecting CLIFF Mini electric sauna heater to the power supply

Only a certified electrician may connect the heater to the power supply.

  • The power cable of the heater must meet the requirements of UL 62 in US and CSA 49 in Canada.
  • It is forbidden to use a PVC-insulated non-heat-resistant cable as the power cable of the heater.
  • The junction box must be waterproof and located up to 19.7 in (50 cm) from the floor.
  • It is recommendable to connect the unit to the mains power supply without an earth leakage circuit breaker.
  • The cross-sectional area of the cable and maximum amperage of the circuit breaker are provided in Table 2 (240V) and Table 3 (208V).

  • Open the cover of the heater’s electrical box.
  • Connect the power cable with the terminal board, as shown on the circuit diagram.
  • Close the cover.
  • Fix the cable in the cable clamp.

Disassembling CLIFF Mini electric sauna heater fins for stacking sauna stones

CLIFF Mini electric sauna heater is narrow and tall. Therefore, it is easier to lay the sauna stones when the fins of the heater are removed. You can do it with 2 blocks  that are supplied with the heater.

Refer to the figure below and follow these instructions:

1. Loosen the nuts of the threaded rod on the bottom of the heater by 0.12 in / 5 mm.

2. Push both props between the fins of the heater.

3. The fin is released from both sides.

4. Remove the fin carefully from the joints, first from the right end, and then from the left end.

Important! Pull the fin away from the heater straight, and without turning the fin or using force – this enables to avoid bending the tenons.

  • Repeat the same steps for disassembling the fin that is located under the removed fin.
  • Replace the fins by following the provided instructions in reverse order. The fin must be attached to the joint first from the left end, and then from the right end.

Sauna stones

  • Sauna stones with a diameter of 1.2 – 2 in / 3–5 cm are suitable for CLIFF Mini electric sauna heaters. It is recommendable to use round sauna stones in HUUM sauna heaters. Round stones complement the design of the heaters and provide milder steam. Our product range includes round olivine diabase sauna stones which are sold in packs weighing 33 lb / 15 kg.
  • Of course, sauna rocks from other manufacturers may be used in HUUM sauna heaters, but in such a case it is recommended to choose stones that are specifically meant to be used in sauna heaters and to avoid decorative stones as they may break easily.

Quantity of sauna stones

  • CLIFF Mini electric sauna heater requires 132 lb / 60 kg of sauna stones with a diameter of 1.2-2 in / 3–5 cm.
  • Refer to the information on how to arrange sauna stones correctly.
